In order to create a challenging practice experience for football players, the right training aids are required. The most basic football equipment is blocking pads. Blocking pads come in two forms: Blocking shields and stand up dummies. Both blocking pads are used to establish a variety of technique and skills, including blocking, tackling and defensive line drills. Blocking pads are ideal for practice drills and provide adequate protection when players are engaging in a lot of physical contact. 

Other types of training aids include blocking sleds, which are different than blocking pads in that they do not need to be held by a player. Blocking sleds are freestanding, steel sleds that have pads attached. Blocking sleds are available in many varieties, including a one, two, four or five man sled. Generally speaking, blocking sleds are used for hitting exercises, while minimizing contact between players. Using blocking sleds is an excellent way to focus on technique without worrying about competition.

Final football training aids include football passing machines. Football passing machines are electric powered machines that fire footballs. Football passing machines are adjustable in speed and eliminate human error in passing. With football passing machines, players won’t have to worry about inconsistent passing speeds; instead, these training aids remain consistent and allow players to focus on specific passes and catches. Football passing machines are not only used to assist passing routes, but also for kick and punt returns. 

Before hosting a football game, there is a variety of football equipment that is needed to run a game smoothly. Goal posts are necessary pieces of equipment on any football field and are usually fixed into the ground. However, some playing fields have the goal posts in a portable form so that they can be moved as needed. There are differences across the sizes of the goal posts, as some levels require larger goal posts. 

Other must-have pieces of football equipment include score boards and timers. Most fields come equipped with score boards, which also include timers. However, there are portable score boards and timers that are available, and some are digital, while others are hand flipped. Electronic score boards and timers are preferred because they can be ran by a single person. The score boards include such information as timers, scores, downs and distances, quarters and timeouts. 

Chain sets are also necessities for football games, as they offer a visual of where the first down is. Included with the chain sets are the down and ball marker that displays numbers to represent downs and lines of scrimmage. Chain sets are generally managed by the chain crew, or a team of three people. People that manage chain sets include volunteers or paid individuals.

A last piece of equipment is sideline markers, which are triangular foam pieces that offer a 3D visual of the yards on the field. Sideline markers mark every ten yards. The bright orange colors of sideline markers make them easy to spot. With sideline markers and other necessary pieces of football equipment, leagues will be most capable of hosting successful training practices and games.
